Michael Thexton Joins BluFocus As Head of Advanced Technology
We are very happy to announce the addition of Michael Thexton to our BluFocus team. As we continue to grow and expand our company into new areas of entertainment technology, Michael will play a strategic, technical and operational role for our maturing business.
Michael Thexton is a strategic, technology leader with a diverse media and entertainment focused background spanning DVD, Blu-ray Disc, Digital VOD/EST/OTT, and Second Screen Application technology. For nearly 14 years Michael has focused on helping to deliver high quality interactive content to various consumer formats with his roles within technical operations, programming, development and management.
Michael began his career in post-production for Technicolor concentrating on quality assurance for DVD. He went on to help develop the Blu-ray authoring departments in the UK focusing on transcoding workflows, authoring processes, production operations and presenting at educational events. After this, Michael moved to Bangalore, India to develop and conduct BD, 3D and stereoscopic technology training programs for the Technicolor authoring facility.
Michael was instrumental in the successful launch of the world’s first 3D Blu-ray Disc, Monsters Vs Aliens. He was also the recipient of Technicolor’s President’s Award in recognition of his achievements and contribution to Technicolor’s Blu-ray Disc efforts. In 2012 Michael was selected to participate in a Technicolor-backed technology start-up, Magic Ruby that developed several cutting-edge Second Screen applications. Michael has been primarily focused on providing automated content services in support of new OTT SVOD platform launches for Shomi (Rogers Communications) and Lightbox (Telecom Digital Ventures).
Since then, Michael has focused heavily on technical operations for DVD and Blu-ray authoring programming and development and has been heavily involved with digital media concentrating on on-boarding to OTT platforms and digital service automation.
At BluFocus, Michael will be Head of the Advanced Technology department, and is charged with oversight on all aspects of BluFocus’ Advanced Test Center as well as continual innovation into new areas of testing and development including consumer device certification/compatibility testing, new consumer format testing (including Virtual Reality, HDR, and UHD Blu-ray Disc), and web and mobile application testing.
